Coffee Break With Quirky

Hey Guys!

So I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d give ya’ll a general update and touching on a few things that have been happening in my quirky worky life. So Earlier this month I was contacted by a brand new ( as of 2016) publication called My Trending Stories. I was offered a chance to be a contributor for them, and of course I accepted as this is my very first opportunity outside of working on my YA fiction and blogging to all you lovely readers ( I’m not just sucking up, you guys are awesome and it always makes me smile when my notifications blow up).  So, if you want to check out my profile on there the link is right here. I am currently writing about more serious stuff over there. My article posted is about being a body positivist and I am currently polishing up an article about Feminism ( I know, it’s a lot heavier than my normal reviews and ramblings, but I decided to bring my more serious passions to the table).

In mom news, Sophia will be starting potty training soon, So you get to hear about all that, and by the end I’ll have some tips for any moms of little ones out there. Also in mom news, I am currently working on a full review of the latest and greatest mom apps/websites Momco and In about a month I will have a full comprehensive review of both and I will be able to tell you if having a sort of dating site for making mom friends is really as great as it sounds.

In nerd news: of you follow me on Instagram you’ll see it there first, but Tomorrow morning my husband and I will be going on a SDCC funko pop hunt, and I will be talking about my experience and what it’s like to be a female collector .

What’s new with you guys? Comment below and tell me how your life is changing. As always you can connect with me on instagram, facebook, and twitter. Just look up quirkyworkymama.

Finding Cute Clothes on a Budget

I’m back guys, and I bought some batteries! Now, the things I’m about to write are from me as a tall plus sized woman with larger feet, but the tips I’m giving can 100% be used for any  woman ( or man) of any height, shape, or shoe size. Saving money and being fashionable is for everyone, but don’t be shocked when some of the places I list are plus sized retailers. So, I’m not going to get into super specefic measurements via hips and bust size… But I will tell you I am 6’1, wear size 12 women’s shoes, and I wear a size 2x/3x and a 22/24. So, as anyone who is overly tall ( or short), plus sized ( or very petite), and has big feet ( or tiny feet) we all know the intense struggle of finding clothes that fit our body in the right way.

I have a variety of tips and tricks for dressing the way you want on a budget, and it includes a sneak peak into my wardrobe ( even after Cleaning out my closet for donation I still have TONS of clothes). So lets begin this super awesome post!!!!  Note: I am not a good photographer, especially not when I’m taking pictures of clothes absent of people inside them, so bear with me. 🙂

  1. Buy pieces that will work for multiple seasons

Bought from ( left to right ) Ross, Ross, Forever 21, and Maurice’s ( all under $20)

If you follow my instagram you’ll clearly see that I love kimonos, cardigans, and blazers. I have accumulated quite a few over the years and I wear these from March all the way to December ( which if the temp is above 45 in the winter you can find me layering these over long sleeved shirts and sweaters). Stretch the wear of your clothes as far as you can and you’ll see that the money you save on pieces you stretch can get you something you really want.

2. Take care of your clothes!!!!

That maroon sweater in the picture before the one above has been in my closet for 2 years. I paid $12 dollars for it. It’s in great shape and I expect it to last many more years to come. I have a pair of capris I bought at a Walmart that were bought 4 years ago. If you take care of your clothes you won’t constantly be buying new ones. Clothes are an investment. follow their care instructions and don’t be messy with your food. I have two kids and I’ve managed to keep all my white clothes in excellent condition.Don’t be afraid to baby your clothes, you have to wear them after all.

3. Sales are your best friend

I’m not telling you  I buy everything on sale. I would be flat out lying if I did. I do however go to the sales rack immediately when I enter the store, and even when I go online shopping. The pictures above are just a few things I have found on sale. I got the furry vest for under 20 ( normally around $45) the puffer vest for $2 ( Normally $34) ,, The cute bracelet for $4.95 ( normally $12.95) and The earrings were 1$ ( normally $6) because I bought the moon necklace with the blue stone. a few days ago my local Maurices was having a 40% off purses sale. I combined that with a $10 off birthday coupon and got a $44 purse for $17.62. My recommendations: If you are in search of accessories, I recommend Hot topic, they run buy one get on $1 sales on accessories, and overall have some pretty decent clearance prices in their store. If you are looking more for clothes, I recommend Rue 21. They run the same kind of sales ( buy 1 get 1 $1 or $3 or $5) and the price of their products are overall pretty low. They are a teen store ( I went school shopping their in middle school) but if you take your time and look closely, you’ll find stuff for those with more adult taste ( or if you are a teen reading this, go nuts that place is awesome).

4. Buy things at the right time

Left to Right: Rue 21, Maurices, Maurices

Lets get real guys, winter rolls around, you’re cold, and you aren’t even thinking about wearing skirts, camis, or sandals. I am though, Shortly after Christmas, I ordered myself summer capris, camis, and sunglasses. I paid $50 for the 6 items I received, and I was pretty much set for summer days chasing my toddler at the park. Now that summer is here, I see people lined up with shorts paying full price, and I’m scoping out the sale section for cheap sweaters. I do the same for my kids as well. Do we still buy a few things here and there once the season comes around? Of course I do, but I don’t have to worry about having to buy it all.

5. Know that you will never find everything you need cheaply

I know, I know, I told you guys this was about getting clothes at a cheap price. In a perfect world, I’d be able to buy jeans with a 32 inch inseam for $10. This is not a perfect world, and I’m dropping at least $50 for jeans that fit me and make me feel good about myself. I can get socks and underwear on amazing sales, but bras and shoes have me dropping a pretty penny. While I wish I could find em super cheap, I will say the way I shop for the things I can get on sale and cheap helps me absorb the blow of paying that price for jeans ( and taking care of my clothes means that I won;t have to absorb that blow too often).

6. Clothes for Christmas

this past winter, we were rushing to get Christmas presents and stuff for our incoming baby that we didn’t have enough money to get myself a pair of boots. My mother in law asked me what I want for Christmas so I said just a pair of boots.Christmas rolls around and I receive a pair of black knee high boots and grey ankle boots. So, if you are wanting that cute shirt but can’t swing the $30 price tag, it’s a perfect birthday/Christmas present for you then. As adults, Christmas and birthdays are perfect times to ask for practical thing you need or something you want but don’t have enough money to  buy yourself ( just you know, don’t ask for too much. The spirit of giving isn’t infinite).

I hope you guys enjoyed my tips on getting clothes that fit you on a budget. Below I’ll list off some stores that have great sales/ are inexpensive all together.

Loved and Blessed Box Review ( and a general update)

Hello to all my super awesome readers! I have been busy with super important mom stuff, but when I noticed that my loved and blessed box was waiting for me at the door, I knew I had to drop everything a write ( which I thought should include a general update because if you guys are really still reading this, you probably care about all the stuff I do on a daily basis. Anyways, I’ve been wanting to post two really super awesome posts, One being a get ready with me type post that shows all the steps of getting a nice freckle free contoured canvas on my face. The other being a how to guide on shopping for plus size clothing and accessories on a budget, including sneak peaks into my wardrobe ( I know based on some pictures I put on here it looks like my whole wardrobe is just tons of camis, but I swear I own other clothes). I was super excited for both of these posts, but right after I finished off taking pictures for the get ready with me post, my camera died. So, after scrounging around for some random batteries, I had enough bars to take pictures of my daughter opening her birthday presents. Suffice to say, I am a procrastinator, and need to go buy some batteries still. So, I have a super quick review to give you with a poor quality cell phone picture.

So the Month of June was Victory. Like last month’s box I got a sticker, mini scripture card, encouragement poster, and a free gift. I was super excited that the free gift this month was a piece of jewelry. You can’t see it in the picture, but the necklace has Victorious etched into it. The only complaint that I do have is that it is a very short chain, so I will be working on extending it so that I can wear it. If you haven’t already noticed, the box is missing from this picture. I received my box stained blue fro the USPS with a ticker on it saying that it had been contaminated with dog shampoo and had to be disinfected. Luckily everything inside was okay. I am a little bummed that it wasn’t presentable enough to sneak into the background of the picture, but if you follow my blog regularly, you already know what the box looks like from last month’s review.

Sadly, that’s all I have time for today. I already have my 6 month old crawling over here because she’s pretty sure the computer is a toy.

Until Next Time,

What’s In My Bag!

I have been seeing Videos and posts like this everywhere! So, I thought I’d join in on the fun! Plus, it’s an excuse to show everyone my newest bag that I bought for spring!

KODAK Digital Still Camera

Journal: I always have a journal on me ( I one day hope to have my short stories published) in case I find a spontaneous source of inspiration. I use small 80 pg. journals, so there is always a new one in my purse. The one shown is from a 3 pack for Barnes and Nobles spring collection. I love floral print for spring, so I couldn’t help myself

Pen: I adore the set of pens that this one came in. It’s from the sweet heart set and I snagged these from Barnes and Noble shortly after Valentines Day.

Clif Crunch Bar: These are my favorite granola bars and are really handy for a snack. I’ve been at my new job for almost a month and they have yet to see me eat anything aside from these granola bars. And for anyone who is Vegan or just doesn’t eat dairy, the White chocolate pieces in this bar are made from soy 🙂

Peanuts Moleskin Planner: Being a wife and mother of two, I am constantly jotting down appointments and to do lists. This thing keeps me sane ( plus, it’s super duper cute).

Sunglasses: I’ve been wearing this pair of sunglasses for almost four years now. They are huge, and I adore them. They are always in my purse no matter which one I am carrying.

Wallet: I don’t like big wallets. This one is perfect for me. It’s slim and fits even in my smaller purses. It has a place for everything, and it’s in one of my favorite colors ( If you wanna know about the zipper pull it’s a chibi Teepo and Elise from the game tales of Xilia. I got it for Christmas).

Makeup Bag: I hate the idea of anything spilling on the adorable lining of my bags, so I carry those items in my cute January Ipsy bag to hold them all

Keys: ( Held in Makeup Bag)  I have a toddler who wants to be just like mommy. As cute as that sounds, it also means that I need to lock my makeup case after I’m done using its, and since I seem to lose everything I put them in the one place I never go anywhere without: my purse.

Mirror: Nothing really to say about this, It’s just your run of the mill Compact mirror for Ulta.

Chapstick: (Kept in makeup bag) I never lose my chapstick so I buy my favorite brand every time. Burts Bees is the best Chapstick and I’m loving the vanilla Bean one I have now.

Hand Sanitizer: ( Kept in makeup bag) I use a lot of hand sanitizer ( I finish off 3 a month) and I hate the smell of original germ – x, so I stock up on sanitizer from Bath and Body Works when there’s a good sale and I have a coupon to double up with. Right now I’m working on my cherry champagne toast and I love it.

Hand Cream: ( Kept in makeup bag) As you can clearly see, my poor Tree hut organics hand cream is on it’s last leg and I am squeezing every last drop out of it. I do have a udderly smooth hand cream on my bedside table, so I’ll probably be rotating that in until I finally drive across town for another one.

Lipstick: ( Kept in makeup bag) I like to keep whatever lipstick I’m wearing in my makeup bag just in case. Lately my colour pop matte lipstick in creeper ( shown above) has made many appearances in the makeup bag ( not like I’ve actually every used it for touch ups, the lipstick lasts all day).

Gum: I drink an obscene amount of coffee and without gum I would most likely offend people with my coffee breath ( If anyone tells you coffee breath isn’t that bad, they are liars… It’s horrendous ).

Phone: I know I know, I don’t gasp! have an I phone or a Samsung galaxy! I don’t really want one either. I’m happy with my Alcatel Astro Pop. And I can bet money that All the apps run the same, and my calls sound just as clear. No knock on people who did shell out hundreds for their phone,  I just don’t want to spend that much money on something that I let my 2 year old play baby games on ( Go ahead internet, judge me. No I phone and I let my toddler play with my phone. Worst mom award goes to….).

Epi Pen: Fun fact about me, I have a shellfish and mollusk allergy. I’ve never had either ( shrimp, crab, lobster, crawdads, clams, scallops) I was diagnosed through a routine allergy test as a child, and honestly walking by the seafood counter, don’t think I’m missing much. I can have fish though.

If you were hoping for something crazy, Sorry to disappoint. I am one of those boring people whos purse isn’t a black hole, but it is another look into my life ( and a look at the cute purse. I know I said it was cute already but I’m in the honeymoon purse face so I won’t shut up about it anytime soon).

What do you keep in your purse?

Until Next Time

When I decided for the New year to reboot Quirky Worky and make it more about all the things I love instead of just mom stuff, I didn’t think it would be any more popular than the original quirky was. I am happy to say that I was wrong. In one months time my blog has finally reached 50 followers! A handful of those followers followed the original quirky but the majority of you are new readers that I am so happy to have!

Youre-Awesome-Cat-Meme-10I adore all of you and by following my blog you’ve given me a fun platform to continue to write on and be heard. I hope to continue to write and gain more awesome followers like all of you.

Until next time
